Samuel (Rev) VEAZIE

Plymouth, Mass., Vital Records: "The Revd Mr Samuell Veazie of Duxboro & Mrs Deborah Samson of Kingston, Marryd at Kingston, Augst 6 . 1742"
A complete genealogy of Deborah Sampson's ancestors can be found elsewhere, notably Geneal Memoirs of the Sampson Family (Vinton) and, of course, Mayflower Families, Gen'l Society of Mayflower Descendants (Henry Samson). Deborah's burial is assumed from the Weymouth VR - although the name is illegible, the text for a burial reads: " ---, w. Rev. Mr. Veazie, Aug 24, 1755."
Stephen, son of Samuel and Sarah, baptized 31 Jul 1757 (VR Hull). Died young?
Rev. Samuel Veazie graduated Harvard College in 1736 and was ordained the minister of the church in Duxbury, Oct 31, 1739. Following controversy with his flock, he removed to Hull, MA, in 1753 and preached there, also, where he died. Geneal Mem (Vinton) has his death date as 1797.
He was a passionate, though imprudent, preacher and ran into many difficulties with congregations during his ministry. On several occasions, he informed his congregation that they were "damned to Hell" for their sins. In those days, ministers could not be dismissed by their congregation but could be starved. The church committee at Duxbury at one point voted him an annual salary of one pound. He remained there yet several years before leaving.
